About me

I began my journey of self-development back in 1972 when I was 17 years old, It was with a Karate school called Australian Goju, which became Zen Do Kai and now trades as Bob Jones Martial Arts. Back in those days it was purely Karate. Years later it developed into a freestyle system incorporating, kick boxing, Aikido, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Eskrima, Krav Maga and other systems of self defence. I am not in the loop as I left Zen Do Kai back in 1985 to follow a path that was not consistent with ZDK’s.

My alternate path began in the early 80’s, it included the study and practice of Taiji and Qi Gong, Yoga and Meditation, however I did keep my hand in Karate by teaching students for several years. I still remember the Karate katas that I learned in my time with ZDK and practice them regularly. However, I prefer the softer, flowing energy-based forms of Taiji and Qi Gong. I have been studying and practicing the activities listed 50 years.

You could say that I chose a path which is sustainable for the body, whilst calming the chattering mind.

Here I am practicing Trikonasana (triangle pose)

If you would like to see me in action doing a Karate demonstration back in 1982, it can be found in You Tube under my name keith smoult.
